Meteors Asteroids and Questions About Life

A recent meteor strike in Russia, captured by many on video, caused over 1,000 physical injuries. We can only imagine what this event did to the psyche of these people. How many thought this was a missile attack? How many wondered if it was the end of the world?

Meteor In Russia

Ironically this meteor crashed at 9:11, you can see the time at the bottom of the video.

Every day we go about our business, thinking that we understand our lives, and have everything under control. Then a tiny fragment of meteor enters our atmosphere, brightens the sky, and our attention turns.

It’s been a little over 100 years since another famous meteor crash in Siberia in 1908. That meteor was a bit more potent, flattening trees over an 820 mile area. The Tunguska explosion occurred on the morning of June 30, 1908. One witness, a train engineer, felt a strong vibration in the air, heard a loud rumbling, and stopped the train, thinking it had derailed.

Asteroid 2012 DA14

Think that was eventful enough? Let’s throw in an asteroid that came within closer range than many satellites orbiting the earth. That’s close. This asteroid wasn’t that big, not in comparison to the one that wiped out the dinosaur, but it could have done severe damage.

Add all this to the recent ending of the Mayan calendar. How many of us turned our attention to that day, December 21, 2012? Oh heck, it was nothing. The feeling of all this is a bit surreal, like playing Alice in Wonderland. In one moment we feel bigger than life, and the next we feel small, and fragile.

The asteroid passing by at a close 17,000 miles, that was a close call. The damage would have been as great at the 1908 meteor strike. Glad we missed that one. But hello, we still had a meteor strike. It’s not the first time, and it will not be the last.

Asteroid Energy Shift?

Did the asteroid or the meteor shift the energy of our planet in any way? The Asteroid did enter the circle of energy around the earth. We could call this space the aura, much like the aura of energy around biological lifeforms. Think that is nothing? It’s easy to train someone to actually feel this energy with their hand. Years ago I would slowly move my hand toward my dog while he was sleeping. As soon as I touched his invisible aura he would turn his head and look at me. Just because we can’t see it, or don’t notice doesn’t mean it’s not real.

How do we turn this asteroid and meteor event into something metaphysical? Everything relates, yet at the same time we go about our business, focusing on our huge presence as a tiny dot in a really big world. That really big world, it’s only a speck within a universe, and so on. Still our perspective on life makes us bigger than life. Go figure, move on, back to the everyday stuff.
