Sanskrit is a very old language kept alive today in part by those who subscribe to metaphysical and spiritual thinking. This ancient language from India was the language used to write what we see today as many of the spiritual text such as the Vedas or Vedic Stanzas. These writings date back to around 1500 B.C.
The Power of Sanskrit
It is more than just words. Sanskrit is also seen, or more accurately heard, as a powerful sound tool. Many prayers are said in the Sanskrit language, for these phrases are said to affect the body, mind, and spirit.
Words hold power, but could the ancient Sanskrit language do more? Could the sounds, connected in a certain form, have some power to retune the frequency of the brain? Meditation and hypnosis do in fact change the frequency of our brain, bringing us to a state of heightened awareness.
Famous Sanskrit Words
Mantra – Speaking of sound, Mantra’s are prayers, phrases that bring attention to a specific desired state of being. Mantra’s have been used in song, such as in the music of Imee Ooi, bringing us into a state of well-being and peacefulness.
OM - This simple sound is one of the most commonly known and most powerful sounds. It is transformational, beginning as more of an “ah” sound in the back of the throat and rolling forward into the “oh” and finally the “om”. Sounded slowly the tones resonate and vibrate within the upper palate, connecting us to a part of the brain that is our power and creator self. What does Om mean? “All that is”.
Chakra – This commonly used word describes something that is not seen with the physical eye, but the eyes of the soul or spirit. A chakra is an energy center in the energy-body, aligned directly with the physical body. There are seven primary chakras in the physical body as well as many smaller chakras in the hands, feet, and throughout the body. The sanskrit word chakra means “wheel”, which is how the chakra appears when looking directly at it, more more like a turning wheel.
Veda – Greatly honored spiritual texts written 3,500 years ago? What does this mean? In Sanskrit the word Veda simply means “knowledge” or “to know”. Throughout history and the rise and fall of many leaders the ancient texts have been hidden, hunted, and destroyed. What secrets lie within these ancient texts? What power do we possess simply through our own knowledge?
There are many other famous Sanskrit words, like clairvoyance, which means “clear seeing”, clairaudience or “clear hearing”, and more. Why use Sanskrit? Our language does not have words to describe the subtle abilities and perceptions. Besides, nearly all the words within the english language are rooted elsewhere, whether in Sanskrit, Greek, or Latin. We can always find the meaning of words, both literally and intuitively speaking, but it is up to us to find the value and innate meaning that create enrichment within our lives.
