Determine what your dream is
What are your goals for the future? In the next week, what are the goals that you want to achieve in your life? In the next month? year? Or in the next 5 years? Determine what you would like people to remember you for after you left this world.
Try to think big and challenge yourself. In other words, reach for the stars!
- Are you clear about where you are now? Make sure to audit your strengths and areas for development.
- What do you need to do in order to get rid of the gap between your dream and the reality?
- Prioritize. Consider things which will have maximum long term impact and look for quick wins. Build solid foundations, think of sustainability!
- Set challenging but realistic targets. Don’t forget to aim high.
- You need to continue communication your vision. Ensure that all stake holders understand and subscribe to the same vision.
- Who do you need to involve? Any ideas how you can make them sign up and stay committed to the vision?
Say what you mean and mean what you say
Think about the language you use. Sound positive, if others think you are confident it can be achieved they will gain confidence too. Develop a “Can do” mentality within your staff. There is a solution to every problem which means you should encourage others to see themselves not as problem givers, but as problem solvers.
Operating at every level and in all directions are the clear lines of communication you have created. Break each priority down into small achievable steps, involve your team. Who needs to do what – by when? Don’t forget to set a timetable.
The roles and responsibilities for all staff should be identified and ensure that the staff takes ownership without creating a jobs worth approach. Ensure that people are appropriately trained and that training is constantly updated.
In order to be prepared to adjust as necessary and evaluate performance, build in the monitoring and review process from the start. (Rather than blame, create a culture of development instead so that huge potential will be released.)
