The Meaning of Myth – Old World or Real?

Throughout history there have been so many stories and beliefs handed down through verbal teachings, stories of the gods, the spirit realm and the meaning of life itself. Many of those teachings have faded into a world that has shifted its poles from the song of the earth to the broadcasted messages that overwhelm the “middle world”. Which is right, and which is wrong, and is there any meaning to our myths?

We Living in the Middle World

world treeThere are cultures that spoke of the tree of life or the world tree, utilizing the laws of nature and the wonder of life as a symbol for more than life: it is a sign of existence. The tree spans deep into the earth, rooting us into this world, yet spans into the heavens with the north star as a steady point in the ever-turning universe. We live in middle, in the every-day world.

The Meaning of Myth

A myth is a belief, simply stated, and just like the example we have of the tree of life we must all root ourselves within some type of belief. Our knowledge and our roots come from a combination of the education we receive, not the ABC’s alone but the core belief that we are the center while at the same time we are within an expansive, unseen universe.

The World We Call Divine

Call it divine knowledge, spiritual beliefs, or religion, it all holds on to the subtle cosmic web that gives us our metaphysical connectivity. How else do we find our soul-mates or our soul group? We teeter on the edge, or somewhere in the middle, of this spiritual web, and use the senses of the soul to perceive, much like we use our physical senses.

The question arises from all this about the validity and value of myths. They sound like incredible stories, and some feel so detached from our world today that it is difficult to relate to those tales and myths. Does it make them any less credible? Many who live in our day-to-day world reach a point when they realize the emptiness of living merely within a single-plane, and turn to find a connection that, strangely enough, parallels the teachings from those ancient cultures. It is not just the teachings of one region of the world either, for we will find the myths, the beliefs of the old world, embedded throughout our world.

Welcome to the Middle World

What do we find out of all this talk of trees and levels of our existence? Perhaps it is knowing that we must tap into all three levels, practicing the skills found in each and then learning how to interlace those many levels into our day-to-day world. Our growing is not all outward and expansive, it is where we stand, with our roots deeply planted and our souls speaking out within our middle-world. That is how we have more in this world.
