Yoga Past And Present

Practicing yoga is not only a means for getting relaxed and more flexible as a result of stretching exercises, it brings so many benefits that it is worth taking the time doing it. Yoga has roots in ancient India, where it was a set of theories and practices focusing on creating a unity between mind, body and spirit. As a result of it, the individuals expanded their surroundings awareness. And they realized true happiness, freedom and enlightenment, they improved their health and mental well-being and they got emotionally balanced.

Yoga: Strength, balance, Stability

In the past several decades, yoga was brought into America where it was turned into a physical exercise with the purpose of focusing the attention. The Americans minimized the spiritual aspects of yoga, they were mainly interested in Hatha Yoga, with its postures or asanas, with increasing the muscles strength and the body stamina, and creating an emotional balance.

It is only normal to wonder if yoga is safe in case you have never done it. As by only looking at yoga students at work it gives you the impression that yoga is complicated and highly painful. Yoga was the subject of research for doctors who published their results in medical journals. They all agree that yoga is safe and beneficial to individuals of all ages. The physical exercises strengthen the body and the meditations improve the mental.

Yoga and Flexibility

Yoga exercises are good for the muscles which become more flexible; they are good for breathing and for increasing the energy levels. As a result of practicing yoga by old people, for example, many of their pains and aches disappear. They start feeling better, their energy increases and they experience positive feelings.

In the old age, people have to fight osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Yoga is extremely beneficial in their cases and they need not fear as it is safe. Yoga helps old people regain their joints mobility and flexibility. They should exercise on a regular basis to maintain their mobility. They enjoy great psychological effects from yoga, they are happy and their immune system improves a lot.

As yoga strengthens the body and induces a mental well-being, it is beneficial for expecting mothers as well. The mental control helps them to stay calm during birth, and breathing brings good levels of oxygen to the baby. All in all, mothers-to-be have a good birth experience and they have fewer pains.

Yoga is a proven therapy. It is effective in stress related disorders like migraine, headaches, tension and others. If you are not sure that the postures you take during yoga classes are safe for your health, you should consult your doctor. Tell him what you intend to do at class and he will advise you if it is correct or not for your health.

Yoga Tips

You should pay attention to not strain too hard to do your yoga postures or to not do them too quickly. Take your time and allow your muscles to remain flexible and relaxed. Remember to keep control of your breathing in and out at the correct time.

Also, it is good to talk to your instructor if you have any health issues, old or recent. He will know how to work with you better if he is advised. Do not work in overcrowded rooms or if the temperature is not right. And last but not least, look for an attentive instructor who is qualified enough to teach the class.
