There is no doubt that we live in a sensory world. In the same thread we cannot deny that some of the input or perceptions we experience have a positive enriching quality, while others have a what is described as negative or draining. Enriching is not always good, we can become overwhelmed with too much of a good thing. Draining is not always negative either, for we must not only nourish ourselves but also release those things that no longer serve us.
Sound and water- both have amazing restorative and energy shifting qualities. We can call it healing based on the common definition of healing, and that is “change”. We are reactive, responsive, and in any moment in our lives we can be affected by the world around us.
In this video we see a wonderful experiment and demonstration of vibration and sound on the water contained within a tibetan singing bowl. Thanks to the creator of this video for sharing it with others!
Singing Bowls dates back to pre-Buddha (2000BC) period in Himalayas. They are often called Tibetan Singing Bowls. From musical instrument point of view, they are categorized as bells, though they are standing bells. Their sound is believed to be in harmony with soul’s rhythm and they are used for meditation.
From acoustic point of view, the mallet resonates the bowl and create a high-amplitude sound. If water is added, bowl’s dynamic changes and frequency decreases accordingly. The new system is a vibration container of water that admits the well-known Faraday wave pattern on its surface above a certain threshold.
