Getting In Touch With Your Inner Healer

When asked the question, “Do you know how to heal yourself?”, the responses go in so many directions. We don’t always think of ourselves as healers, and many think of healing as some great spiritual gift that only a few possess. The truth is we are all healers, we all possess the ability to heal ourselves.

Getting in touch with your inner healer

How does someone get in touch with their inner healer? Is there some great ancient knowledge that will unlock the spirit self? Is there a technique or practice that allows us to tap into the great cosmic force? There certainly are many powerful tools and techniques that we can practice and use for self-healing. In fact we just tapped into one the most powerful secrets about self-healing: practice. The power is not just in what we know, it is in what we do. Remember the expression, “practice makes perfect”? Perfection is not our goal, but practicing the ABC’s of self healing will get you one step closer.

The ABC’s of self healing

Let’s get down to the basics, the kindergarden level and the ABC’s. What does self healing mean? Self healing is movement, release, replenishing. It is life: the breath and the connection between spirit and matter.  It is the “all that is” and it is the singularity of the soul. Self healing is more than just being, it is being in the moment.

Let’s have a little fun with the ABC’s of self healing. There is no better place to start than from a place of amusement and playfulness. Spirit resides in a lighter energy level, and cannot live peacefully in tension, tightness, fear or pain. Letting ourselves lighten up is a key in the world of self healing.

Awareness

Our ability of self-awareness is what many have said sets us apart from the animal, mineral and plant world. Consciousness is something we all possess, but in many levels. We have physical consciousness, the workings of our nervous system and senses. There is also the mind, that powerful tool that gathers data 24/7 and allows us to remember and think ahead. We also have a level of consciousness that we could call the soul or spirit consciousness, or the creative and purposeful consciousness.

One of the first steps in self healing is bringing our awareness out of the mental, emotional, and physical sensory states of consciousness, but remaining receptive to those highly important levels of awareness. Some say it is detaching, and the Buddhist ideas teach us that it is the state of nothingness. My favorite way of looking at being in the spirit consciousness is “stepping out of the story”.  In this state of awareness we can have a completely different perspective, and can gain greater understanding and find our compassion within that state of consciousness.

Tomorrow we’ll look at the B’s and C’s in the ABC’s of self healing.

We can find meaning in our stories in so many ways, from the perspective and presence of the hummingbird shaman, to the depth of expression as we bring our soul-level purpose into action.
