Some people don’t understand that there is a huge difference between living a spiritual life and living a life steered by religion. To someone that has not spent a great deal of time dealing with either, the confusion is easy to fall into. There are many different interpretations of both, making it even more confusion. To clear some of it up, let’s take a look at the key differences between spirituality and religion.
Spirituality and Commitment
Essentially, it all comes down to the commitment level of the believer. Those with spiritual beliefs often have a stronger faith than those with a religious background. While this is not at all true in all cases, there are some fundamental differences between the two that pinpoint where they can be separated.
Living spiritually is more about praying and meditating to achieve some sort of relationship with the higher power. It is more about trying to attain peace through a personal relationship rather than adhering to rules.
Living a Spiritual Life
A spiritual life often involves going a few steps beyond the guidelines of a religious life. It often has its followers seeking something like a relationship with whatever higher power they believe in.
A spiritual life is wanting to allow things like miracles and life altering experiences that come from a higher power. Rather than experiencing their deity through rules like religion, those that lead a spiritual life experience theirs by attempting to invite the spiritual presence of the deity or God into their lives.
While the two extremes mentioned above do have their place in each method of worship, it is not fair to bash either of them because of this. Before making judgments, you should try each method for yourself and see if living a spiritual life is something you are interested in.
