Reiki attunement is the process by which a person can learn from a Reiki master the secrets of this Tibetan palm healing technique. The word reiki comes from the two terms rei and ki, which means universal and life force energy respectively. In the art of Reiki., the positive energy is accessed from the cosmos and channelized through the palms to another body in order to heal it.
Reiki attunement is actually the process of teaching reiki. But one should keep in mind that the art of reiki is not possible to learn through normal classroom methods. These are ceremonial sessions through which the process to access the endless energy of the universe is taught to channelized through the palm, by the reiki master. The ability to perform reiki, thus, is also transferred on to the pupil by the reiki master through his palms.
It was Dr. Mikao Usui who had popularized the process of reiki during the ’90′s. Combined with the ancient Tibetan palm healing techniques, the methods of Usui are the ones which is being practiced in Reiki attunement of recent days.
The process of reiki attunement takes place in three degrees or levels of Shoden, Shokuden, and Shinpiden. By these three levels one can learn the art of reiki from the basic conceptual level to the usage of expert and advanced reiki symbols in order to heal others.
Shoden or the first level of reiki attunement is all about knowing the fundamental and theoretical concepts as well as the basic hand positions of reiki. You must be aware that reiki is practiced in two ways. Local reiki can be used to heal up a particular part of the body, whereas the whole body treatment tunes up and balances the seven reiki chakras or energy meridians of the human body for wholesome wellbeing.
The second degree of Reiki Attunement is all about transferring the ability or power to access the universal energy and channelizing it through one’s palms in order to heal another person. At the end of this level, the reiki practitioner is able to perform healing across time and space.
The final level of reiki attunement or Shinpiden is the level where you can learn the advanced reiki symbols. If you are good enough, you’ll be able to gain control over some symbols and use them. You’ll be able to undertake reiki attunement of others after this level because you’ll become a reiki master yourself.
The ceremony of reiki attunement has two parts in general. The ceremony starts with the master and the pupil centering and grounding themselves. Then the reiki master goes to the back of the pupil, lifts up his left hand to access the positive energy of the cosmos and with his right hand draws reiki symbols on the pupils palms, third eye and crow of the head. This is done with stroking tapping blowing and chanting in an intense concentrating and meditating manner. The same thing is repeated with the reiki master coming in front of the pupil.
