Deja Vu – What exactly is it, and what kind of meaning does it have when you get that surreal feeling that you’ve already lived through this experience?
This strange phenomenon has to be explained as the feeling that a present situation has previously been experienced even though it never actually has been. There are two essential aspects to the phenomenon called deja vu. First is the recognition of an image, emotion, or a psychic state you have never experienced before, and you also have some level of ignorance as to the origin of the impression with which the present image seems to be identical.
This condition is usually accompanied by some degree of mental confusion, and it may also involve some amount of emotional pain or response. There may also be some sense of dreaming or lucid experience involved as well.
The phenomenon is explained by the theory that there are two sets of psychic centers ; the higher, whose action is conscious ; and the lower, or subconscious centers. These subconscious centers hold a tremendous amount of memory and imagination, and accordingly may receive impressions from the outside and store them, or may form them in imagination. In either case, these subconscious processes may arise into our consciousness and give the impression or feeling of recognition even though the situation has not been consciously experienced.
Does a deja vu experience have any great psychic or intuitive meaning for us? Some may delve into the experience to find some hidden meaning, but these deja vu experiences just seem to be random and unimportant events. In looking for some special message or meaning it seems the best way to look at the experience as one of awakening. We are more than just a body locked into a time and space continuum. Parts of our consciousness are able to shift from our current presence into the past or the future, or be someplace other than where our physical body currently resides.
Deja vu, the feeling that we have been there or done it. It’s an experience into a perspective of life that certainly brings up a lot of questions about who we are and the abilities we possess. Here’s a little more about deja vu and similar terms that most people have not heard. Deja vu is a fairly new term, dating back to around 1900. It’s also known as promnesia, though that term is rarely used. There is also deja entendu, which means “already heard”, which relates to hearing sounds or music that you get that intuitive feeling about. Our book worm friends will like the term “deja lu” which means having that feeling that we have already read something, but knowing as well that its the first time we’ve seen it.
