Is Mind Over Matter Selling Us Short?

It’s a hot topic for someone who is seeking to bring more empowerment into their lives. Many times our desire for empowerment comes when we are in the midst of just the opposite, feeling something draining us or feeling as though fate is waggling its manipulative ways in a way that is not in our favor. “Mind over matter” – is it possible? Is it the easiest course of action?

Mind over matter- what exactly is it? Is it the cerebral patterning that has developed over a lifetime? That would certainly fall in the category of “the mind”. Is it a form of reasoning? We live by reasoning each and every day, and if the reasoning is not clear we can certainly create what seems like a solid direction. No, reasoning doesn’t seem to be the answer, either.

Delving into the Subconscious

Maybe if we delve deep into the subconscious. That’s not quite the easiest thing to do, delve into the subconscious with any sense of “control”. The subconscious works rather independently, at a speed far greater than the conscious mind could fathom, yet it is the interaction with the conscious mind and the senses that trigger the subconscious. We use it all the time so in a way we cannot look at the subconscious as being dominant or even separate.  Separate from what?

Recognizing our Higher Consciousness

Here we go, a step in the right direction. When we view our conscious mind, our subconscious, our thoughts and feelings, who or what is doing this “viewing”? It’s impossible to put a finger on it, that part of us that sees the parts as well as the collective, but its real. There is a part of us that dreams, a part that creates and heals and propels us forward. There is a part of us that has a path, a direction, goals, intent, passion, and purpose.

Positive Thinking

Is “mind over matter” selling us short? I think it is. It’s like positive thinking or affirmations creating a thin layer over a sea of activity. We have to see what is in that “sea”, with each aspect being so independent yet inter-related. We also can remember to acknowledge that overseer part of us that is bigger than any thought, faster than any idea, and greater than the mind or any other matter.
