The Meaning of the Moon, Intuitively Speaking

In an earlier posting we focused on the light of the moon, and the moon has certainly been the center of attention in many stories, poems, and beliefs throughout time. Our moon is entwined into our hearts as well, with the subtle light of the moon being a symbolic part of our deeply rooted romantic feelings.

What is the meaning of the moon, in a metaphysical sense? The moon itself is not a source of light, yet the moon gives us the subtle light of the night. It is only during the darkness of night that we clearly see the stars, gazing out into the universe. It is at night that we see beyond our own world.

In the metaphysical sense we have the same events happening from our human perspective. Much of what we do and see is by the light of the day, in other words we focus on our world, the physical acts, and the physical objects that we interact with. But we also have our “night” as well, the introspective look when we go deep within our own heart and soul. During those introspective times we also open the doorway to see beyond our own little world, seeing the universe in terms of the many possibilities. In our introspective moments we see that there is more than what is currently within our reach, we dream and we grow in so many areas of our life.

In this old poem we find the beauty of the subtle perspectives:

“A world there lies around,
A world we do not see;
Yet the sweet closing of an eye,
May bring us there to be.”

Many ask, “Why are we here?” We are constantly seeking a meaning to life, and the value of turning within for answers, or the intuitive meaning of life. Is it greater to focus on the tangibles of life, being worldly and focused on wealth and prosperity, or are the true riches in life found on a much more subtle level? Many who find abundance on one side often seek to balance the other. We are here to be both of the world and of spirit, finding that yin-yang flow that is so harmonious when the two sides are working together.
