Aspire To Be Buddha Like – Om Mani Padme Hum

Those who meditate do so because they aspire to reach a state of awareness that is outside the vibratory level of our day-to-day lives. The results they seek: to find clarity; a sense of calm; stillness of the mind; a more centered sense of self.

It’s funny, as I was writing this short text lead into the video I questioned my choice of words. Why did I use the word “aspire”? I decided to look up the definition. The very first definition that came up on my search gave the definition, “to draw a bead on”. Chanting is often performed using a Mala, a set of 108 beads for counting the 108 repetitions of the mantra. How ironic that the description spoke of a bead – but it served as a reminder to use my Mala as a tool for counting out the number of repetitions without getting caught in thinking.

To aspire is to dream or hope, it is a desire. Chanting is the action, with each repetition the steps along the way. The tones, in the very melodic Sanskrit language, are in this instance described as such:

The mantra OM MANI PADME HUM
-OM represents the body of all Buddhas;
-MANI means ‘jewel’;
-PADME, means “lotus”;
-HUM represents the mind of all Buddhas;

There are many interpretations of the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra.
The image in the video shows the six different symbols/words/sounds in Sanskrit. You can watch the video and may find some benefit in seeing the symbols, I think they are beautiful, especially the first, the image for OM. Typically my recommendation is to chant with eyes closed to lessen the external distractions, and to give the chanting experience your full attention.

We will offer to you another instance of the chant: Om Mani Padme Hum in the near future for comparison. The delightful part of sharing more than one vesion is that while our mind wants to examine, dissect, and find the “right” version, our soul is given opportunity for many instances of enjoying this healing mantra.

The most wonderful instance of the Om Mani Padme Hum chant, combined with piano, is by Imee Ooi – click on the link to find the CD on Amazon.
