Reiki attunement is the process in which a Reiki master teaches or transfers his Reiki palm healing abilities to the recipient. This is done so that the latter also gets access to the infinite universal energy of the cosmos and develops the ability to receive the same and channelize it through his palms on to another person for healing purposes.
The word Reiki is made up of ‘Rei’ and ‘Ki’ meaning ‘Universal’ and ‘Life Force energy’ respectively and the science of it is entirely based on how to access this infinite energy and channelize it with the help of your palms to yourself or on to others for stress reduction, relaxation and most importantly healing purposes. The process of Reiki attunement is all about transferring this ability by a master to the recipient.
The Usui system and the ancient Tibetan way of healing have been blended to form the Reiki attunement process. Though reiki is originally from Tibet, Dr. Mikao is the person mainly responsible for popularizing it. In reiki attunement, the two practices have been mixed so that the power to use the cosmos energy is transmitted to the receiver from the master.
There are three levels in which the process of reiki attunement occurs. In the first level, the recipient is able to channelize the energy through the palms. The second level involves the educating of the recipient of the various reiki symbols which empower the process of palm healing both in physical and emotional context, across time and space. The third level is the degree where the recipient becomes experienced and can finally control the reiki symbols. It is in this level where the experienced practitioner becomes the master himself and undertakes reiki attunement for others.
The reiki attunement process begins with the grounding and the centering of the reiki masters and recipients. There are two divisions to this process. At first the reiki master stands behind the recipient and in the next part, he faces the latter. The reiki attunement is a ceremony and the master resorts to symbols and different palm gestures like stroking, blowing, tapping and chanting to open the reiki crown of the head chakra and the third eye chakra of the receiver and tune it with the infinite cosmos energy field.
In the beginning, the Reiki master stands at the back of the recipient, lifts up his left palm up to receive the infinite energy of the cosmos and with his right hand draws Reiki symbols on the crown of the recipient’s head intensely concentrating and meditating all the while. Thereafter he comes to the front of the recipient so as to focus on the latter’s palms and the third eye chakra.
The Reiki attunement process now progresses with the master taking the recipient’s palms into his own, drawing symbols on them, chanting each symbol’s name, tapping and blowing with intense focus. This similar process is again undertaken by the master for the recipient’s third eye region as well.
When this process is finally over, the master violet symbol is visualized by the reiki master in his own left palm and he puts it on the recipient’s right palm, and chants, taps and blows. This same thing is again done with the other palm. At the end the master visualizes, with intense concentration, the symbol within the two hands of the recipient, and slowly but steadily joins them together and gives them back to them marking the full transfer of the art of reiki. When the reiki attunement process is finally over, the master, standing back, bows to give honor to the recipients and their powers, acknowledging them for who they are.
