The Magic in the Magic 8 Ball

Childhood is amazing. There are so many different things we are able to explore in our childhood, and with siblings or friends to encourage us, sometimes those explorations delved into areas not often explored. Other times we would take something that in earlier days would be considered sacred or a powerful psychic tool, and turn it into something for our amusement.

One such wonder, at least from my childhood days, was the magic 8 ball. I’m not sure I know anyone who has not heard of or tried a magic 8 ball. Yes they are sold as toys, but they are also considered by some to be valid tools for divination.

There have been so many tools for fortune telling or divination in the past. These tools range from divining sticks, runes (stones), tea leaves, tarot cards, and many other devices. Even today in our world of logic and learning many people will still seek out answers through some psychic means. Is their intent on finding answers, or is it all just fun and games?

The idea behind the magic 8 ball is that you focus on the question you would like answered. Clear your mind, concentrate on your question. Holding the magic 8 ball in your hand, with the 8 clearly upright, you ask your question. Slowly turn the magic 8 ball upside down and look at the answer that appears in the little window.

Divination has been around for a very long time, and it is not likely to disappear anytime soon. We all have questions, and we will turn to whatever means we choose to find the answer. Perhaps we should look at divination, even the magic 8 ball as a means of learning and growing, just as Newton began his quest to define gravity when an apple fell on his head. The signs are there, if we are open to see those signs.

Since my childhood years I have seen the magic 8 ball sold in a variety of sizes, even coming out in what you could call designer models. Spongebob 8 ball? So funny, so fun! Here’s what Amazon has to show us in the world of magic 8 balls: Magic 8 Ball
