Did The Ouija Board Scare You As A Child?

I don’t know about you, but when I was a child the Ouija board scared the heck out of me. We had one in the house, I’m not sure how it got past mom’s discriminating eyes. I don’t think mom even knew we had a Ouija board, or even what it was supposed to do.

I remember being upstairs in the house. We’re talking a big house, with a creepy basement and huge closets, some almost as big as a present day bedroom. Back to the story. We were upstairs in my sisters bedroom, and it was nighttime. We sat on the floor with the Ouija board, and someone told us stories about talking to spirit. I was very quiet, and I don’t think I ever took my eyes off the Ouija board.

“Put your finger tips on the plastic pointer”, I was told. “Gently, so it can move, but keep your fingers on it.” We asked questions, silly ones, and watched with wonderment as the pointer slid from letter to letter, spelling out the answer.

Over time I heard stories of Ouija boards, and even sought out answers on my own, being so curious about anything of a spiritual nature. I’ve heard stories of dark spirits coming through, or people no one in the room knew who had died, but remained in a state of unrest.

In my own experience, limited as it was, I never had the impression of dark or evil spirits communicating through the board, but I never did get over the fear that it could happen. Maybe my fear is superstitious, maybe it is what kept me safe.

Is the Ouija board a valid tool for divination or talking with spirit? Some believe it is a toy. Others believe it to be a powerful means for spirit communication. Not too long ago I came across this DVD, How to Contact Spirits – Learn to use a Spirit/Ouija Board & Hold a Seance
. It is volume two in the series, created by a man who is a Reiki master. Here’s what his viewers have to say:

“This was the clearest instructions for using the Ouija board that I had ever seen.”

“I would recommend to all who have an interest in contacting spirits and their spirit guides.”

Would I use a Ouija board now? No, its not really my interest, but that’s not a judgement of it either way. There are many directions we can go in our spiritual quest, whether for fun or for life changing answers. Some find this method to be the answer, and if we enjoy ourselves and feel good about our direction, isn’t that all that matters?
