Have you ever been so deep within your thoughts that you drove right past your exit on the freeway, or tuned out so much that you missed everything someone just said? It’s easy to do, and the majority of us, if not all, have episodes when we think we are present, but we are really not “there”.
We think of consciousness as being awake, but that is not quite accurate. You can have consciousness even when you are sleeping, not on the physical mental side, but on the spirit-self side of awareness. We process, plan, and test the waters in the time our body is sleeping. On the flip side, just because you are awake doesn’t mean you are “all the way” conscious. Go back to the first paragraph, and you’ll understand what I mean.
Consciousness and presence go hand-in-hand, at least when we’re talking about living in the physical world. Huh? Okay, I threw another twist in the story. Let’s refine what we are talking about: we can be conscious and aware, but with our focus on the internal or creative side, focusing on what we want and the possibilities in life, the space outside of physical evidence; or we can be conscious in the down to earth stuff we call “real life”, the tangible, measurable creations.
This consciousness thing looks pretty darn complicated, doesn’t it? It’s not so much complicated, but it does have multiple levels. Each level of consciousness serves us as well.
If you want to stay within safe parameters and also enjoy life to the fullest then you want consciousness in your day to day life. That means putting things into perspective, letting go of the past, and not living for the future. If you want to enjoy what you have in your life, yes this is the same statement but in a different light, then it will also serve you to own and acknowledge your “dreamer and creator” consciousness as well. What you sow is what you reap, and so on.
Waking Consciousness – Broadening Our Attention Span: The greatest step to being more conscious, being more in the here and now is through awareness. We do this by recognizing what is a pattern and seeing ourselves from a different perspective. This is why I teach classes on personal awareness, recognizing what no longer serves us, and how to create a safe environment without choking out new life. This world is rich with opportunities and possibilities, and the only thing holding us back is our own detachment. Facing the reasons behind our choices does take commitment, but look at what you gain.
