The Healing Drum Retreat is right around the corner, happening April 16th through 18th at the Brighton Creek Conference Center near Yelm, Washington. For those who do not know where Yelm is, it’s in the footprint of Mount Rainier, within a close drive of Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia Washington, and within easy reach of Portland Oregon.
This retreat is a weekend event, beginning with a native drum making class on Friday evening. During this time we engage both the people making drums as well as those who want to watch and support where they can, making this class a strong alliance between individuals. The energy is set in cooperation, creativity, and honor to start the Healing Drum Retreat weekend.
During this particular Healing Drum Retreat we will be crafting as usual, and our creative project this time is native american rattles. The rattle is a universal creation, used as a toy in our infancy and childhood years, but it has been far more than just a toy.
Rattles have been used in native and shamanic prayer for centuries, using sound to carry the message of prayer and praise to Great Spirit.
Our rattles are free-form creations, meaning that you can make your rattle in a variety of designs. Some choose to honor a totem animal, making their rattle represent an owl, or bear, or one of the other symbols of abilities we admire in those animals. These rattles are not from kits, we use natural materials, and you will be the creative force in the making of your rattle, with the guidance and knowledge of experienced teachers.
There is still time to register for the Healing Drum Retreat. This event is packed full of spiritual and personal growth activities, giving you the opportunity to reset your energetic “pulse” and breath again.
Registration includes lodging, meals, workshops and the native american rattle making activities. There are additional costs to make a drum, a great addition to this weekend, but those attending for the weekend can be at the drum making workshop to observe and participate.
