The astral dimension can be roughly summed up as an immaterial parallel plane existing alongside the one we are familiar with and which offers seemingly limitless possibilities of experience. Think of it as a very lucid dream intersecting with our physical world.
During an out of body experience, many people experience themselves to be a point of consciousness floating in the environment without being subject to gravity or other physical laws. It is a dimension where everything seems amazingly real, changing and fluid. Time can also be distorted and stretched out.
Naturally, there are many factors that influence these experiences which won’t be perceived and lived out in the same way by everyone. In most cases, however, it is a startlingly vibrant and altering happening.
To induce an astral voyage consciously, there are a few necessary conditions. Naturally, find a place and a time where you will be undisturbed. Early morning is actually a better time to be inducing conscious astral projection. Without going into the details of it here, suffice it to say that the brain’s chemistry in the early hours of the day is at an optimal point in its cycle to facilitate an oobe.
When you are ready to start, you must allow your mind and body to relax deeply without diminishing your psychological alertness and without going to sleep. You will come to what is called the ‘theta’ brainwave mode which means the brain’s frequency is slow and calm. It is similar to a meditative state. How long it takes to get to this point will vary from person to person and may require extensive practice.
It may help to focus your mind on an object such as a burning candle during the relaxation process. It does not matter what the object is as long as you are comfortable with it and it channels your mental energy. Take care to breathe slowly and deeply (without straining). When you feel like it, start to visualize and try to get a sense of what astral projection would be like.
You will know you have reached the sleep paralysis state because your body will feel much heavier and you may even experience what is called ‘sleep paralysis’ – a normal occurrence when your brain believes that your body has fallen asleep.
From here, you can perform any exit technique and visualization you wish to have the separation between the physical and ethereal bodies occur. One such technique has you imagining there is an invisible rope hanging from your ceiling. Without moving your physical body at all, you need to mentally coax your energetic body to grab the rope and climb it hand by hand. The feeling is what is important here.
The transition out of the body may happen quickly or not. What is important is to execute the exit method at the right time when you are deep into the theta state – otherwise you may only end up moving the physical body and have to begin over as your trance state will be broken.
