No one likes to think about the possibility of losing their job, but the reality of life is that layoffs do happen. A little preparation combined with some mental reinforcement can make this transition in life a little easier and possibly more rewarding.
Layoffs can flood the market with hundreds or thousands of other job seekers who hold the same skills, all looking in the same area. This makes for fierce competition in the job market, with far more candidates than there are new jobs.
There are steps you can take to lessen the pain of unemployment and make your job search more productive. Let’s take a look at some of the steps you can take, everything from polishing your resume, to clearing your head of negative thinking.
There’s not always warning of upcoming layoffs. Sure there can be signs, like an increase in the stress level, or a long-term drop in production. Sometimes the company is prepared for the rollercoaster ride in business, but let the truth be known, not even the company president knows for sure when those layoffs will happen.
There may be other signs that things in the office are taking a turn. A change in management behavior may be a sign. When work slows people try to keep up the appearance of being busy. Managers can start to micro-manage. Micro-managing can be a reactive response to fear, or be an action intended to re-establish control over the situation.
As soon as you have that first warning signal it’s a good idea to gets your facts straight. This means pulling out your old resume and updating it. You may want to re-write the entire resume, giving it a freshness and new perspective. Remember to include qualities as well such as your punctual attendance and your willingness to go the extra mile.
Put some attention on self empowerment. Weighing your value against others, and having to prove yourself in an interview can be daunting. There are many classes and techniques that can help you release old concepts and beliefs, such as EFT or even Reiki Energy Healing. Learning new empowerment tools can only make you stronger, both emotionally and mentally.
It’s time to step forward, and your job layoff may be the opportunity and motivation you have been looking for. Use those techniques you have learned to release the past, renew your spirit, and step into a better career.
