Today is September 22nd, 2009, the day of the fall equinox of 2009. The word equinox means “equal night”, with the same allocation of time given to daylight and to night. From this point on until the winter solstice the night will overpower the day, and each day will find us with even more darkness than the day before.
Sounds dark and ominous, doesn’t it? The fall season, for some, is a time of loss as they put away their playful moments in the summer sun. It is easy to get lost within the glamor of the summer. But fall gives us the harvest, and we can see the beauty in the changing of the leaves as we make room for next year.
It’s easy to slip into our thoughts of the future. Fall and winter give us greater darkness, and with darkness we have more time spent within the dream. But on this day we have equality and balance. The Equinox gives us opportunity to be in the middle, enjoying both our ability to live our lives as well as live our dream.
This equinox occurs on September 22nd on our linear calendar, and on the day of 1 Ix in the circular Mayan calendar. I find this combination gives even more credibility to this equinox day of finding that center line and standing in the middle.
The question remains: does life fall together, or fall apart? Both. We stand in the middle, and for the pieces of the puzzle to fall in the right places there must be a space created for each of those pieces. Life is not about how much you can accumulate, but how much wisdom you acquire with each step you take. Part of this journey is about letting go, or letting ourselves fall apart in order to create new spaces for tomorrow.
